Willie Devargas Children’s Music Artist.
Born and raised on the Lower East Side of New York City, Willie Devargas fell in love with music as a child as he was immersed in the diversity of the city and exposed to sounds from all over the world. What was a musical hobby turned into a true passion through his role as an early childhood music educator once he saw how his original music sparked his students to dance, clap, smile, and open up in new ways. He was hooked and inspired to create more music that shares positive messages about life and our world in a way that is simple and empowering for our youngest children and with rhythm that all ages can appreciate.
Willie Devargas is now in his 17th year teaching at the Sara Curry Little Missionary Day Nursery, just blocks from his childhood home, where he finds joy in opening up the world of music to a new generation of Lower East Side children. Willie Devargas was a 2014 recipient of The Blackboard Award for teaching and has been highlighted as a top Kindie artist in New York City by New York Family. In a life that revolves around his love for bringing music to children, Devargas can also be found teaching ukulele lessons to preschoolers, donating time at local hospitals and libraries, and performing for children’s parties and events.
